Art theft at 1 Spadina Crescent

Last week, U of T arts lecturer George Hawken reported the theft of approximately 30 small copper plates from the storage room around the corner from his office at 1 Spadina Crescent. These plates comprise an important chunk of the artist’s work dating from the 1970s and 80s.

First Muslim chaplain in Canada

On Monday, October 1, the University of Toronto’s first full-time Muslim chaplain took up post, hoping to erase stereotypes of Muslim students. Canada’s first Muslim chaplain, Amjad Tarsin, will serve the fast-growing U of T Muslim population and endeavour to provide guidance and create positive relationships with students of all religious backgrounds.
Faced with a budget shortfall, TTC has approved a 5 cent fare increase, the latest in a long history of fare increases. While the increase would not affect cash fares, the price of an adult monthly Metropass will go up by $2.50 per month. And for the estimated 85 per cent of University of Toronto…

Tuesday’s UTSU “Emergency Education Town Hall” was a rare episode of U of T unity. Students, faculty, and the administration came together in a display of near-unanimity to denounce the Ontario government’s proposed changes to post-secondary education.

From science lab to store shelf

On Wednesday, September 19, the University of Toronto opened the Banting and Best Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Located in the old medical research facilities on College and University, the project aims to foster the commercialization of research.
